- Poland 1943: An unlikely pair - the concentration camp prisoner Victor Kaufmann and Rudi Smekal, a captain in Hitler's notorious SS, - free themselves from the wreckage of a crashed SS airplane. Strangely, the two appear to be familiar with each other. They were childhood friends, and Rudi has removed Victor from the concentration camp because he needs his help. There is a Michelangelo drawing that was in the possession of the Kaufmann family, and Rudi wants to present it to the Duce as a gift.
As their mission progresses, however, the power balance between the two men begins to shift. This is a dark comedy set against the background of the Second World War. Two friends, a stolen artwork and a case of mistaken identity sees a victim of the Holocaust switch places with his Nazi friend in order to survive.
