Filmed in numerous workplaces in Poland, the film set out to reflect the state of mind, cares and problems of workers at the autumn of 1971. ‘Picked out from the crowd’, the central figures and what they have to say are infused with authenticity. They are neither overly optimistic nor well-disposed toward the authorities, diverging from the propaganda models of the time. As a result, the documentary in its original form was shelved by the censors. Despite opposition from the filmmakers, a censored version was broadcast on television, retitled as Gospodarze (The Housekeepers). The original version was not distributed.
