1765-1768, twenty years before the French Revolution, a bloodthirsty beast rages in the province of Gévaudan. Over 100 victims, mostly women and children, are to be lamented, the corpses are horribly mutilated. Thus, at least, the legend recounts ... The naturalist and charismatic Greagoire de Fransac and his faithful Mani are sent by the king to investigate the events. In his investigations, the duo soon encounters a decadent nobleman, a fanatical priest, a mysterious courtesan and a gorgeous noblewoman. And both begin to guess what horrible mystery lies behind the monster and a secret society.
