Mikhail is a lively middle-aged man. He is an irrepressible hunter for antique furniture and has a keen scent for rarities as well as overwhelming greed. When he finds Thomas Chippendale’s masterpiece in a remote Bashkir village, he is in no haste to pay cash for it. And how wrong he is! This savory comedy about human’s passions and vices is based on Roald Dahl’s short story called “Parson’s Pleasure” which turned out to suit perfectly to Russia’s province. Aleksey Balabanov’s favorite, the great Viktor Sukhorukov stars in the comedy. He manages to provoke both disgust and sympathy alongside with ecstatic admiration. All that at the same time.
